What brings you to my land?
She asked and cocked her head.
I'm looking for a great friendship
the jewel winged bird then said
A friend to hold me when I'm scared
or offer a shoulder when I weep.
One whose laughter I'll revel in
who I'll dream of in my sleep.
A solid pal who'll love me true
that will be forever in my heart.
And when I meet this bosom chum
we'll be together even when apart.
Because I want this special bond
to bind our hearts to beat as one
as a single soul we two will be
though angry or scared or having fun.
And as the jewelled birds rang clear and true
the clouds overhead grew thick and dark.
Soon fell the drizzle and the air grew chill
and the little girl took up the small sparling lark.
Clutching the bird close to her heart
she held it dry and warm though the chilled rain.
Until the last drop cold drop had fallen
then she reached in her coat and released him again.
He looked at the girl and a wee tear drop fell
